AWE is an abbreviation of Association for World Education.
AWE was founded in the early 1970’s by Aage Rosendal Nielsen, who also founded the world famous “Æ Verdensuniversitet” (the World University) where John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent some of their time meditating.
During a stay in Nairobi in the autumn of 2003 Johannes Abildtrup got in touch with a group of 25 homeless street children. To support themselves they had to empty the garbage bins in the back streets of the restaurants of Nairobi having no place to go or sleep. All of them wanted to get an education but that was far beyond their reach and capacity. The only thing they could face was poverty and a miserable life in the dangerous streets of Nairobi.
“I decided to help these kids and now I have found a piece of land where it is possible to build a school and an orphanage where they can get an education and grow their own vegetables.
The 40,000 m2 are situated 60 km south of Nairobi.
The first street child – Anita – age 13 – has recently started at a local boarding school. She wrote to me:
“I am the happiest girl in Africa. I just got my new school uniform, cardigan, shoes, books and all other equipment – thank you so much – I pray for you – and I pray that you will also be able to help a lot of other children!”
Anita has decided to be a skilled doctor!!
Any kind of support is essential in order to make this project work as soon as possible for the benefit of those 25 street children and hopefully a lot more – there are not only 25 of them in Nairobi – actually there are 25,000 !! And this is only in the capital city of the country.
